- Billionaires fund California Proposition 39 voter ID ballot measure — Multiple billionaires, including Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia, Richard Uihlein, and others, have donated over $36 million to support California's Proposition 39, a ballot measure requiring voters to show identification at polls and including ID numbers on mail ballots. The measure was authored by Republican lawmaker Carl DeMaio in response to Trump administration pressure. California currently requires ID only at voter registration, not at polling places. The yes campaign has vastly outraised opponents by approximately $13 million. Democratic groups, the ACLU, and the League of Women Voters oppose the measure.
