- Florida legislature advances bill to expand vaccine exemptions for children — Jacksonville state senator Clay Yarborough introduced a bill that narrowly passed the Florida House health policy committee (6-4 vote) on Monday to expand exemptions from vaccine mandates for school-age children. The bill adds "conscience" as a reason for parents to opt out of vaccinations while keeping mandates in place for measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, and polio. The measure falls short of state surgeon general Joseph Ladapo's stated goal to eliminate all immunization mandates. The bill requires medical providers to inform parents of vaccine "risks, benefits, safety and efficacy" using state-provided materials.
