- Los Angeles County tentatively agrees to $828 million settlement for sexual abuse claims — Los Angeles County announced a tentative agreement to pay $828 million to settle more than 400 additional sexual abuse claims against county employees, pending approval by the board of supervisors and county claims board. This follows a $4 billion settlement approved in April covering approximately 11,000 claimants with allegations dating back decades. The county stated it would conduct additional scrutiny of claims, including those from the law firm Downtown LA Law Group, and investigate allegations that some plaintiffs were paid to file fraudulent claims.
